Overwhelmingly Underwhelmed

Staring into the abyss of darkness in agony
Of the eyes that appear darker than ebony

In a bleak room of whiteness
Where the body loosens in void
While the head is dizzy with tightness
Is it a human? Or a humanoid?
The hollow apparition in the airtightness

Who is that? Do I recognize the person?
Or is it a soul remnant of arson?

Is it a survivor or a corpse? I can’t tell
All I can see is that it’s trapped in a deep well

A house full of luxuries that appears swell
It can’t escape, it can’t hide, it can’t scream, it can’t yell

Captivity eating away on the inside like a worm
Creeping dread catching up as the new norm

From an infant to an elephant it grows
Don’t mention it however the wind blows

You wonder what desolation looks like
Ask the one who forgot what sun looks like

Or the one who marvels at the chirping bird
When the deafening noise of nothingness is all they’ve heard
